FAUX Luxury - A Short Rant

In today’s perfumery world, many brands promise a lot, but the truth is, they don’t always deliver.  They advertise with enticing ingredients like “jasmine absolute, ”vanilla absolute,” “musks,” and “sandalwood,” but the reality is that the amount of natural ingredients used in these perfumes is often very low, if not nonexistent.

While synthetics are perfectly fine, many luxury brands make extravagant claims about their perfumes being exquisite and made with the highest quality ingredients. However, after years of working in perfumery, I’ve seen numerous gas chromatography data sources of many popular perfumes and discovered that the amount of expensive, beautiful, natural ingredients they promise is either nonexistent or used in such small quantities that it doesn’t justify their high prices.

Of course, if a perfume from one of these brands works for you and you love it, do buy it and enjoy every drop. After all, perfume is meant to make you happy. But be wary of brands that promise luxury without delivering it… there are plenty out there.
